My
name is Claire.
Music has always had a big influence in life and now
more than ever. I’m very thankful that my mom and dad both have very good
taste in music and from the day I was out of the womb they've played it for me.
None of that "kids bop" or top 40 crap. Just good music that
cool people would listen to. The first songs I can remember hearing are
"Da Da Da" by trio, "got a man" by Eve, "Hollaback
Girl" by Gwen Stefani, "Ice Ice baby" by vanilla ice and my
personal favorite "country grammar" by Nelly (and not the clean
version by the way, thanks dad). So thank you mom and dad for getting me
on the right path from the start.
Years passed and on my eighth birthday my parents gave me
an electric bass guitar. At the time the white stripes was my all time
favorite band and "seven nation army" was the first song I ever
learned, and I can still play it. Two years later it was time for my
first concert ever. It was the last day of fourth grade and my parents took
my sister and I to an REM concert. On a side note, I just want to thank them
again for making sure my first concert wasn't something like the Jonas Brothers
or Hannah Montana like most of my friends. We had lawn tickets and it was
awesome. Modest Mouse, who wasn't big at the time opened for them and by
the way, they are ranked in my top ten favorite bands now. So I don't know
whether to credit my first concert as Modest Mouse or REM but I love it anyway.
I remember how pissed my dad was when they didn't play "missed the boat"
(his favorite). But anyway, REM was great. They played a lot of
their older stuff like “superman” which I knew.
I only went to one other concert between then and
freshman year of high school. It was Coldplay, which I’ve loved them
since before kindergarten. They put on an AWESOME show and if they're
ever in town I know they're expensive but I highly recommend going to their
concert. The best part is when they played "yellow" they passed
around giant yellow balls and they just bounce around the crowd and it was
beautiful.
Shortly after this I entered what I call my "dark ages" (aka
middle school). It's awful but everyone goes through it. The music
I listened to was all top 40 stuff and I am so sorry for that. I attended no
concerts but I guess that’s a good thing considering the crap I listened to.
Anyway, I have sort of rediscovered my music since
last year and I'm so glad. I've been to at least seven concerts this year
and I plan on going to more. I just love that scene and I love seeing the
people behind the track live.
I would talk more about the concerts but I figure this is
getting a little lengthy for people to read (if anyone bothers to read it). The
reason I started this blog is to talk about music and who's good live and who I
like and all that great music stuff, and yes, its called "planet
Claire" after the B52s song, which is the only song I’ve ever heard with
my name in it. But see ya later
